  • Massive Fire Drill, Yorkton Film Festival, & HELLO! - 47 Wrap May 2025

Hello and Welcome to 47 Wrap! Keep up to date with all things 47 Filmworks as a part of our brand new email list and newsletter! Supporting the Film Industry Through Training with Executive Director of Film Training Manitoba, Adam Smoluk Adam Smoluk stars May's episode of What Do You Do?  Smoluk provides insight into Manitoba's rapidly growing film industry and the trials and tribulations that come with that. Being an executive director is not for the faint of heart, but Smoluk's relentlessly positive spirit and diligent organization has made Film Training Manitoba an integral, stand-out player in the province's industry. This episode marks the second release of season 3. Spot your friends? Tag them and share! Inside the "People's Building" - An In-depth Tour of the Manitoba Legislative Building with Claire Normandeau, Dave Shuttleworth and Rick Yarish Tour the Manitoba Legislative Building from the comfort of your couch! With the growth of What Do You Do?  and our deeper dive into unique careers options, we're proud to announce the release of our first "unique workplace" tours. To couple with our episode on Rick Yarish, the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, we got to go behind the scenes with Claire Normandeau and sergeant-at-arms, Dave Shuttleworth. Keep your eyes peeled for more unique workplace tours to come! In the "Works" We're elbow-deep into season 3 of What Do You Do?  With the unique workplace tours coming on in full force, we've been busy shooting with several exciting participants this month like Colosimo Coffee, the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre, the Brandon Municipal Airport, the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Blue Cross Park, and the Morden Fire & Rescue team. On May 24th, a crew went out to the Pembina Valley area to capture the training day for new firefighting recruits. We were also there on the 21st, not only capturing a fire drill but going right into the fire and flames alongside the guys as they hosed down shipping containers and rescued each other with a two-story ladder. Simultaneously, Jacob Markham and I (Clarke Wayne) headed to Yorkton Film Festival to screen 47 Filmworks, Black Film Space Manitoba & CBC Gem's Relationship Remix, to celebrate Jacob's Golden Sheaf nomination, and to chow down at Canada's most unexpected Lobsterfest. This month, I also had the pleasure of speaking at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate about What Do You Do?  and dream jobs. To hear what 2025 high-schoolers had planned for their future was truly inspiring. Big dreams deserve to be chased, and their future is filled with options and exploration. Our proof of concept for Steel Gang: The Ties That Bind has taken the festival circuit by storm. With three festival selections this month, the short screened at Amare Film Festival, Canadian Independent Film Festival, and Niagara Falls International Film Festival. Amare Film Festival selected the POC as the best short documentary of the festival! In hopes that this will get some buzz around the feature set to go to camera this August, we sent out some of the Prairie Regional Steel Gang members themselves to the screenings, and this is just a bite-sized piece of what's to come. That's all for May 2025 and this 47 Wrap! Since you made it all the way to the end, enjoy this office photo of Jacob and Adam putting up a photo that fell down: Thanks for joining us for the very first 47 Wrap.
